The US-Iran peace deal is signed and Hormuz will reopen. But Israel is not party to the agreement and refuses to leave Lebanon. Oil crashes 5%. The war ends — or just changes shape.

🚨 OPENING

THE DEAL EXISTS. BUT NOT FOR EVERYONE.

The US-Iran peace agreement is real. The electronic signature took place on Sunday, June 14. The formal ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Geneva. Trump posted on Truth Social that "the Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete." Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif, the mediator, declared that both sides had agreed to the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts." The Strait of Hormuz will reopen toll-free.

The problem is that "all fronts" does not include Israel. Netanyahu held a press conference in Jerusalem on Monday, making clear that the deal is Trump's decision — not Israel's. Defense Minister Katz confirmed: Israeli troops will not withdraw from Lebanon. Israeli aircraft struck southern Lebanon on Sunday, the very day of the American signing. Israel launched its ground invasion of Lebanon on March 16 and has no intention of stopping.

This is the core contradiction. Iran had insisted that any agreement include a cessation of Israeli hostilities in Lebanon. The deal as signed, in the American version, does not guarantee that. Iran's version — via the Tasnim news agency — states that Hormuz will be toll-free for only 60 days, after which Iran and Oman will administer the strait. Washington says freedom of navigation will be permanent. The deal exists — but its internal contradictions are already visible before the official signing.

📍 MILITARY SITUATION

🇮🇱 ISRAEL-LEBANON
Defense Minister Katz declared Monday that Israel will not withdraw from occupied territories in Lebanon, Syria, or Gaza. Israel conducted new airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday. Netanyahu declined to criticize the US-Iran agreement but stressed he is "not limiting" himself in acting against Hezbollah.

---

🇮🇷 IRAN POST-DEAL
Iran declared a "permanent cessation" of operations. Iranian state media confirms the end of the US naval blockade in exchange for opening Hormuz. The mine threat remains: Secretary of State Rubio had told Congress that Iran had mined large segments of the strait. Vessels cannot safely return yet.

---

🇵🇰 PAKISTAN — MEDIATOR
Islamabad brokered the entire process. PM Sharif announced the deal on X. The formal signing ceremony is set for Geneva on Friday, June 19.

---

🌍 EUROPE
France, Germany, Italy and the UK warmly welcomed the agreement in a joint statement, calling for "the urgent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz with unconditional and unrestricted freedom of navigation." They expressed readiness to lift sanctions in response to verifiable steps by Iran on its nuclear program.

---

🌡️ CALIBRA — Hezbollah. The deal does not cover the Lebanese front. Hezbollah retains missile capability. One rocket on a northern Israeli town could blow the whole thing apart.

🔑 KEY DEVELOPMENT OF THE DAY

THE REAL PROBLEM: THE DEAL HAS TWO VERSIONS

The deal text exists in two distinct narratives. Washington says Hormuz will be permanently toll-free. Tehran — via the Tasnim agency — says free transit lasts 60 days, after which Iran and Oman will manage the strait. Vice President Vance told CNBC that the US expectation is long-term toll-free access. Iran has neither confirmed nor denied the American version. This is not a technical detail: it is the difference between a peace agreement and a temporary armistice. Shipowners and insurers will wait to see which version prevails before sending tankers back through Hormuz.

☄️ DON'T LOOK UP

Today: Oil prices have already fallen 5%. Brent is at $83.17. Energy bills and fuel prices will begin easing in Europe over the coming weeks.

Within 30 days: If ships resume regular transit through Hormuz, European energy inflation will start to ease. But the minefields in the strait slow the process significantly.

If Hormuz remains contested beyond July: The deal collapses, prices return above $100, and Europe — already facing 4% inflation — risks structural stagflation.

⚡ ENERGY AND MARKETS

Brent: $83.17 (-4.7%) — lowest since early March 2026. WTI: $80.75 (-4.8%). The drop was immediate following Sunday's announcement. Global equity markets rose moderately. Analysts warn that shipowners, insurers and vessel crews must be convinced of Hormuz's safety before full transit resumes. US gasoline remains more than $1 above the pre-war average. European TTF gas reacted positively but with similar caution.

⬇️ YOU'RE UNDERESTIMATING IT - more important than it seems
⬆️ YOU'RE OVERESTIMATING IT - emotional reaction > real weight
🌡️ CALIBRATE - reality is more nuanced than the dominant narrative

🔴 Hormuz reopening ......................... ⬆️ Minefields still active, ships not moving
🔴 Netanyahu out of the deal .............. ⬇️ Lebanon remains an open war
🔴 Brent -5% in one day ..................... 🌡️ Real drop but slow pass-through to consumers
🔴 Geneva signing ceremony Friday 19 .. ⬇️ 72 hours in which everything can collapse
🔴 Israel in Lebanon to stay ................ ⬇️ Existential threat to the deal
🔴 US inflation at 4.2% in May ............. ⬆️ Oil drop won't hit wallets immediately
🔴 Europe ready to lift sanctions .......... 🌡️ Subject to IAEA-verified nuclear steps

🎖️ PERCEPTION DEFCON INDEX

🟡 DEFCON 2 — FRAGILE AGREEMENT

The deal is announced but not yet fully operative. Contradictions between the US and Iranian versions on Hormuz, Israel's absence from the table, and the ongoing occupation of Lebanon make this peace structurally unstable. The agreement holds as long as no one fires. But Hezbollah is still armed.

2 escalation triggers:
— A Hezbollah rocket on a northern Israeli town before Friday June 19 blows up the Geneva signing.
— Iran or the US publicly interpret the text in incompatible ways: immediate diplomatic crisis.

2 de-escalation signals:
— Formal signing in Geneva on June 19 with no incidents in the preceding 72 hours.
— Israel and Lebanon reach a separate US-mediated agreement before the end of June.
